Lot 1424 Vera West

Costume designer for Universal Pictures (1900-1947), remembered for costuming the actresses in monster movies like Dracula and Frankenstein. She mysteriously committed suicide by drowning in 1947, leaving a note that read, in part, ‘The fortune teller told me there was only one way to duck the blackmail I’ve paid for twenty-three years…death.’ Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of West seated at a table, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, adding “whose sense of humor makes her the most regular person I have ever known. Lovingly, Vera West.” Trimmed edges, tape remnants along the top edge, and fading to the signature due to water exposure, otherwise very good condition.
